New Delhi, 30 October (H.S.): BJP general secretary Harish Dwivedi on Friday criticised the Congress over its ‘Jan Mahabhiyog’ programme, which was called off, accusing the party of having nothing substantial to present before the public and alleging that it was attempting to conceal its shortcomings by targeting constitutional institutions such as the Supreme Court, the Election Commission, the Constitution and Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs).
Harish Dwivedi made the remarks while visiting the mock Parliament organised by Citizens for Democracy at the NDMC Convention Centre in New Delhi.
The BJP leader and MP said there was no place for attempts to create an atmosphere of anarchy in a democratic country.
Appreciating the initiative taken by Citizens for Democracy, he said the mock Parliament had effectively highlighted the distinction between democracy and anarchy. He added that the event had attracted attention across the country and received prominent coverage in the media.
Commenting on the calling off of the Congress’s Jan Mahabhiyog programme, Dwivedi said the mock Parliament had left the Congress frustrated and disappointed. He alleged that whenever the Congress lost an election, it questioned constitutional institutions instead of introspecting on its own shortcomings.
He claimed that the party repeatedly levelled allegations against different institutions, at times targeting the Supreme Court, the Election Commission, the Constitution and, on other occasions, EVMs. He said people in the country had become aware of what he described as the Congress’s political approach.
The BJP general secretary said the message of the mock Parliament had reached audiences across the country, with both television and print media covering the event. He expressed confidence that people would respond to what he termed the Congress’s propaganda in the coming days and register their response through democratic means.
It may be noted that Citizens for Democracy organised the mock Parliament at the NDMC Convention Centre in New Delhi. The initiative was aimed at encouraging meaningful discussions on important issues concerning democracy, governance and the functioning of democratic institutions.
Designed to recreate the proceedings and traditions of parliamentary debates, the event provided participants with an opportunity to express their views, raise questions and deliberate on a range of significant issues. According to the organisers, the initiative sought to familiarise participants with the democratic process and provide a meaningful platform for the exchange of ideas.
