Lucknow, Oct 30 (HS): Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, a former BJP MP and past
president of the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI), has been appointed for
the first time to the BJP’s Uttar Pradesh state executive committee. The news
arises almost three months after a Delhi court cleared him in a sexual harassment
case brought by several women wrestlers.Sources indicate that Singh’s name is
included in the newly formed state executive committee approved by UP BJP
president Pankaj Chaudhary on October 26. The panel was established prior to a
meeting set for Friday in Lucknow, where the party will deliberate on its
approach for the 2027 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah is
set to speak at the opening session of the full-day meeting, whereas Chief
Minister Yogi Adityanath will provide the closing remarks. The office-bearers
of the BJP in the state convened on Thursday to finalize the agenda.Singh is
one of seven BJP leaders from Gonda district appointed to the state executive
committee. He is a former MP and a committed leader whose political
career spans more than forty years. However, this marks the first
occasion he has been appointed to the BJP state executive committee, the
report stated, referencing a party official. Sources indicated that although
Singh has been a six-time MP, he had not held any role in the BJP’s national organization
or its state unit. The inclusion comes prior to an important strategy meeting in Lucknow for the
2027 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections, which includes
speeches by Union Home Minister Amit
Shah and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.
