Hyderabad, 30 October (H.S.): Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Friday accused the previous Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) government of attempting to tamper with revenue records and encroach on 550 acres of land in Miyapur, following the Supreme Court verdict upholding the state government's rights over the property.

The Chief Minister's remarks came a day after the Supreme Court upheld the Telangana government's rights over the land in survey numbers 100 and 101 in Miyapur village of Serilingampally mandal in Rangareddy district.

Addressing the media, Reddy alleged that former chief minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao's relative, Damodar Rao, and businessman Goldstone Prasad had attempted to encroach on the land, which he valued at more than Rs 50,000 crore. He alleged that revenue records had also been tampered with in an attempt to facilitate the encroachment.

Reddy said the Congress had fought against the then government while in the Opposition to protect the land and had secured a favourable verdict from the apex court after coming to power.

Following the verdict, the Chief Minister directed officials concerned to take possession of the land. He said a decision on its future utilisation would be taken after the Cabinet sub-committee submitted its findings.

Reddy also said that, if required, the proceeds from the sale of the land could be used to strengthen the education sector for the benefit of students.

He further stated that an inquiry had been initiated into the alleged encroachment involving BRS leaders, including Siddipet MLA T. Harish Rao.
