
Guwahati, 03 October (HS): With only a day left for campaigning for the Nagaon Lok Sabha by-election, the NDA has intensified its campaign across the constituency in support of its candidate Devashish Sharma.
In a statement issued on Saturday, Nagaon Lok Sabha media coordinator and BJP media panelist Dilip Kumar Sharma said the campaign was being conducted across all eight Assembly segments and 25 mandal committees of the constituency.
Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma addressed 15 major public meetings across the constituency in support of Devashish Sharma. Besides the Chief Minister, Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, Assam BJP president and MP Dilip Saikia, AGP president Atul Bora, ministers Pijush Hazarika, Jayanta Malla Barua and Keshab Mahanta, and several other BJP and AGP leaders participated in more than 1,100 small and large meetings.
Sharma said the 25 mandal committees in Nagaon and Morigaon districts also conducted more than 5,000 courtyard meetings and undertook door-to-door campaigning to reach out to voters.
He said various frontal organisations of the BJP separately organised more than 9,500 courtyard meetings across the two districts. These included 1,654 meetings by the Nagaon Mahila Morcha, 350 by the Morigaon Mahila Morcha, 690 by the Nagaon Yuva Morcha and 621 by the Morigaon Yuva Morcha, besides meetings organised by other party fronts.
Sharma said that on the final day of campaigning on Sunday, booth committees would organise padayatras at all 2,309 booths of the Lok Sabha constituency. The marches will begin at 11 am and will involve party workers, local voters and supporters.-----------
