Guwahati, 03 October (HS): Assam Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya inaugurated a two-day ‘Sant Mahasammelan’ on “Reviving Indian Culture through Spiritual Knowledge” organised by Prajapita Brahma Kumaris Ishwariya Vishwa Vidyalaya at the Sonaram HS School playground here.
Addressing the gathering, Acharya said the presence of saints and spiritual leaders added special spiritual significance to the event and inspired society towards introspection, harmony and human welfare. He said the theme was particularly relevant at a time when the world is undergoing rapid technological and social transformation.
Highlighting India’s civilisational heritage, the Governor said the country’s knowledge tradition has always been rooted in spirituality, values, service and human welfare. He said Indian culture teaches that knowledge should be accompanied by humility, power by self-restraint, prosperity by service and rights by a sense of duty.
Referring to Assam’s spiritual heritage, Acharya recalled the contribution of Mahapurush Srimanta Sankardeva in strengthening social unity and cultural consciousness through devotion, literature, music, art and theatre. He said spirituality should not be viewed as withdrawal from the world but as a journey towards discovering inner strength, disciplining the mind and making life more meaningful.
The Governor said that despite unprecedented progress in science and technology, people today need peace, emotional connection, balance and harmony. Spirituality, he said, can help foster positive thoughts, self-discipline, compassion and inner peace.
Acharya also appreciated the Brahma Kumaris’ efforts in promoting Rajyoga, meditation, ethical living, positive thinking and self-discipline, besides connecting youth with values and spreading the message of peace and harmony.
Calling for preservation of India’s cultural heritage alongside modern development, the Governor said the country’s progress should remain rooted in its civilisational values and spiritual strength. He congratulated the organisers and expressed hope that the Mahasammelan would strengthen spiritual awakening, cultural consciousness, moral values and human sensitivity.
The Sant Mahasammelan brings together saints, spiritual leaders, teachers, scholars and devotees to spread the message of peace, harmony, spiritual values and human unity.
Sattradhikar of Shri Shri Auniati Satra Dr Pitambar Dev Goswami, Jagadguru Ramanandacharya of Ayodhya Dham, Ashutosh Maharaj of Ayodhya Dham, Rajyogini BK Manorama and other spiritual personalities, Brahma Kumaris office-bearers and devotees from various cultural and spiritual organisations attended the programme.-----------
