New Delhi, 03 October (H.S.): Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Saturday laid the foundation stones for new waste processing plants at Okhla, Ghazipur and Singhola, as well as a biogas plant at Ghazipur, under the Seva Sankalp Abhiyan. She also inaugurated the Mother and Child Welfare Centre and the Ayurvedic Polytechnic in Kotla Mubarakpur. Rajya Sabha MP Ramvir Singh Bidhuri, Delhi Education Minister Ashish Sood, Mayor Pravesh Wahi and other dignitaries were present on the occasion.
The Chief Minister said that 21.717 million metric tonnes of waste had so far been processed at Okhla, Bhalswa and Ghazipur, resulting in the reclamation of 100 acres of land. The new plants, she said, would further accelerate the process. She added that the government’s endeavour was to replace the garbage mountains visible today with cleared land and greenery, allowing families living in nearby areas to breathe a sigh of relief.
CM Rekha Gupta said the garbage mountains in the national capital would eventually be eliminated.
