Kasargod, 29 Oct (H.S.): YouTuber Abdul Khader, popularly known as “Khader Karippodi”, surrendered before the Kasaragod police after the Supreme Court rejected his anticipatory bail plea in an attempted murder case involving an alleged attack on an expatriate businessman.
Police recorded the arrest of the 31-year-old Anangoor resident after he appeared at the Kasaragod police station. Officials said he would be produced before the jurisdictional court shortly for remand proceedings.
The case relates to an altercation at a restaurant in Anangoor that allegedly escalated into a violent assault. According to police, the businessman was brutally beaten and attacked with a knife in an attempt to kill him.
The case, registered on June 28, names Khader and two of his friends as accused. The allegations against them concern their involvement in the attack following the dispute at the restaurant.
Khader had allegedly gone into hiding after the incident. While remaining absconding, he approached various courts seeking anticipatory bail to avoid arrest in connection with the case.
His efforts to secure protection from arrest eventually reached the Supreme Court, which recently rejected his application. Following the rejection, he appeared before the Kasaragod police and surrendered, leading to his formal arrest.
The surrender marks the latest development in a case registered four months ago. Police said the immediate procedural step would be to produce Khader before the court, which would consider the question of remand.
The information available did not specify the nature of the dispute that preceded the alleged assault or provide details about the businessman’s injuries and subsequent condition.
There was also no information about the current status of the two other accused named in the case. The allegations against Khader remain subject to judicial proceedings; the rejection of his anticipatory bail application does not amount to a finding of guilt in the case.
