New Delhi, 29 October (H.S.): Delhi Public Works Department (PWD) Minister Parvesh Sahib Singh on Thursday inspected the Chirag Delhi and IIT Delhi flyovers, where work is underway to transform and beautify the spaces beneath them.

Parvesh Sahib Singh said the areas were being developed around distinct themes through corporate social responsibility (CSR) partnerships, with plans ranging from nature and wildlife at Chirag Delhi to science and technology near IIT Delhi. He added that 400–500 police booths were also being planned beneath flyovers to strengthen public safety.

“Our aim is to make every part of the capital clean, green and beautiful,” he said.

The minister noted that the spaces beneath several flyovers had previously been neglected, with accumulated garbage, poor lighting and the presence of beggars and anti-social elements. He said that since the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) formed the government in Delhi, efforts had been underway to improve such locations by partnering with major national companies and utilising their CSR funds.

Parvesh Sahib Singh said memorandums of understanding (MoUs) had been signed with companies, incorporating arrangements for the maintenance of these spaces over the next two to three years.

Expressing satisfaction with the progress, he said Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) had taken responsibility for five flyovers and was developing individual themes based on the character of each location.

He cited wildlife as the theme for one flyover and science and technology for another, adding that each site was being given a distinct identity to create a more attractive and pleasant environment for Delhi residents.

The minister said the PWD and the Delhi government were working continuously, day and night, to improve the capital’s appearance and transform neglected public spaces into cleaner, greener and more welcoming areas.
