New Delhi, 29 October (H.S.): IndiGo, the country’s largest airline, operated by InterGlobe Aviation, has reported a nearly 27 per cent year-on-year reduction in its consolidated net loss to Rs. 1,879.1 crore for the second quarter of the financial year 2026–27, covering July to September. The airline had posted a net loss of Rs. 2,582.1 crore in the corresponding quarter of the previous financial year.
In a regulatory filing with the stock exchanges on Thursday, the company said its total income rose to Rs. 24,311.9 crore in the July–September quarter, compared with Rs. 19,599.5 crore in the same period a year earlier.
However, the airline’s total expenses also increased, reaching Rs. 26,188.4 crore during the quarter. Expenditure on aviation turbine fuel rose to Rs. 9,996.8 crore.
IndiGo Chief Executive Officer Willie Walsh said fuel costs remained exceptionally high during the September quarter, which is traditionally a seasonally weak period for the airline industry, while geopolitical turbulence continued to pose challenges.
Walsh said the company would continue implementing cost-control measures but cautioned against expecting substantial reductions in its overall cost base.
He said IndiGo’s cost structure remained highly efficient and its strong cash position provided the company with several options. The airline had prudently reduced capacity and focused on yield management, helping it maintain healthy revenue. However, the improvement in revenue was sufficient to offset only part of the increase in costs.
Walsh added that the long-term opportunities in India’s aviation sector remained highly attractive and that the company’s priorities were clear.
