New Delhi, 29 October (H.S.): Sarva Foam Industries Limited, one of India’s largest manufacturers and exporters of rebonded polyurethane (PU) foam, has announced an initial investment of £6 million to establish a new manufacturing facility in Scotland. The investment marks the first phase of the company’s proposed expansion in the country.

Scotland’s First Minister, John Swinney, welcomed the announcement on Thursday during a visit to Sarva Foam’s office. The proposed investment is aimed at expanding the company’s manufacturing presence and strengthening its supply chain in Europe. It is also expected to help mitigate risks arising from geopolitical uncertainty, supply chain disruptions and elevated transportation costs, while improving operational efficiency and cost management in overseas markets. The initiative is expected to further strengthen economic ties between India and Scotland.

Kunal Giani, Chairman and Managing Director of Sarva Foam Industries, said the company plans to establish a foam-recycling manufacturing unit in Scotland with an initial investment of approximately £6 million. Drawing on its manufacturing expertise, the company intends to convert discarded foam into carpet underlay and flooring products.

Giani said the initiative would help divert waste from landfills and contribute to Scotland’s circular economy and net-zero objectives. He added that, subject to the successful completion of the first phase and the finalisation of broader commercial and funding arrangements, the total investment could reach £12 million over three years. The expansion could create up to 100 jobs in Scotland, including skilled manufacturing positions.

Scotland’s First Minister John Swinney said Sarva Foam’s proposed investment demonstrated how Indian capital could support economic growth, prosperity and job creation in Scotland. He noted that the planned manufacturing facility would promote sustainability and resource recovery while strengthening commercial ties between Scotland and India.

Swinney added that the facility’s focus on circular-economy principles and the reuse of materials would support Scotland’s efforts to advance its net-zero ambitions while creating green and sustainable employment opportunities. He also said that strengthening trade and investment ties with India presented significant opportunities for Scottish businesses and the wider Scottish economy.
