New Delhi, 29 October (H.S.): The Rouse Avenue Court in Delhi on Thursday reserved its order on a petition seeking action against Chief Minister Rekha Gupta over her alleged remarks comparing government officials to Hanuman during a public programme. Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Ashwani Panwar directed that the order be pronounced on November 6.

During Thursday’s hearing, advocate Sanjeet Kumar, appearing for the complainant, raised objections to the Delhi Police report and cited judicial precedents in support of his arguments.

At the previous hearing on October 15, Sub-Inspector Mukesh Tomer of the Kashmere Gate police station submitted a transcript of Gupta’s speech before the court. He also filed a certificate under Section 63(4)(c) of the Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam, 2023, concerning the electronic record.

The petition was filed by Ram Niwas Sharma, who has sought legal action against the Chief Minister over remarks allegedly made on September 23, 2025, at the Kashmere Gate Inter-State Bus Terminal (ISBT). The event marked the launch of Delhi Transport Corporation’s interstate bus service between Delhi and Baraut in Uttar Pradesh.

During an earlier hearing, Kumar had alleged that Gupta compared Delhi government officials and employees to Hanuman, remarking that they worked hard only when their “tails were on fire” and otherwise forgot their capabilities. He said the remarks were made in the presence of a large gathering of government officials, employees and members of the public.

The petition contends that the remarks were reported by several media outlets. It was filed under Section 175(3) of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), seeking directions for appropriate legal action against Gupta under Section 223 of the legislation.

The court’s order is awaited on November 6.
