Kolkata, 29 October (H.S.) : In a decisive crackdown on graft in public offices, the West Bengal Anti-Corruption Branch (ACB) arrested a Revenue Inspector attached to the Block Land and Land Reforms Officer (BL&LRO) in Ausgram, Purba Bardhaman, after catching him red-handed while accepting a bribe. The successful trap operation was executed at approximately 4:00 PM on Thursday.

The sting operation was set in motion following a specific grievance lodged with the anti-corruption agency. According to the complaint, the accused official had demanded an illegal gratification of ₹4,000 to process and issue an Economically Weaker Section (EWS) certificate—a crucial document required by eligible individuals to avail of government welfare benefits and reservations.

Acting swiftly on the allegations, a specialized team of ACB sleuths laid a meticulously planned trap at the Ausgram BL&LRO office. As the transaction took place on Thursday afternoon, the officials swooped in and apprehended the Revenue Inspector red-handed while he was accepting the illicit cash.

Following the arrest, the West Bengal Anti-Corruption Branch issued a formal statement reiterating its zero-tolerance policy towards corrupt practices. The agency reaffirmed its steadfast commitment to combating corruption at all administrative levels and ensuring complete transparency and accountability in the delivery of public services across the state.
