Low-Pressure Area Over Andaman Sea Likely to Intensify

Amaravati, 29 October (H.S.): A low-pressure area formed over the South Andaman Sea and adjoining areas on Thursday is likely to intensify into a depression around October 31 and move west-northwestwards towards the Andhra Pradesh coast during the first week of November, according to the Meteorological Department.

The system formed around 0530 hours IST on Thursday under the influence of an upper-air cyclonic circulation that developed on Wednesday. It persisted over the same region at 1130 hours IST, the department said.

The weather system is very likely to become a well-marked low-pressure area over the South Andaman Sea and adjoining Andaman and Nicobar Islands during the next 24 hours.

Thereafter, it is likely to concentrate into a depression over the southeast Bay of Bengal and adjoining areas of the Andaman Sea and Andaman and Nicobar Islands around October 31.

The department said the system was likely to intensify further and continue moving west-northwestwards towards the Andhra Pradesh coast over the subsequent two days.

The forecast indicates a developing weather system that will require close monitoring in the coming days. Its further movement and intensity will depend on subsequent meteorological updates.
