Bengaluru, 29 Oct (H.S.): Nine Kendriya Vidyalayas across Bengaluru participated in an electronic waste collection and responsible disposal drive on Wednesday, combining student-led awareness campaigns with the collection of discarded electronic equipment for recycling.

PM SHRI Kendriya Vidyalaya MEG & Centre served as the nodal hub for the initiative, which brought together students, teachers, parents and recycling partners to promote environmentally responsible disposal practices.

The drive was inaugurated by Ganesh S. Indrale, Assistant Commissioner, Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan Regional Office, Bengaluru, in the presence of Vijayalakshmi from the Karnataka State Pollution Control Board.

Addressing participants, Indrale stressed the importance of helping students develop systematic e-waste management habits from an early age. Vijayalakshmi highlighted the threat posed by toxic heavy metals to ecosystems and urged young people to protect the environment, saying, “We have only one Earth.”

Ahead of the collection programme, student eco-ambassadors conducted awareness activities targeting families, school employees and neighbourhood communities. Street plays, skits, videos, digital posters and banners explained the hazards of improper electronic waste disposal and encouraged participation in the drive.

Besides the host school, participating institutions included KV RWF Yelahanka, KV CRPF Yelahanka, KV DRDO, KV Malleswaram, KV NAL, PM SHRI KV Hebbal, KV No. 1 Jalahalli and PM SHRI KV No. 2 AFS Jalahalli.

Authorised recycler Sogo Synergy Pvt. Ltd. provided technical support. Its representatives included president Lawhale G. R., senior procurement manager Divya Rao and Stewart James. The collected electronic scrap was categorised and transported for recycling through the company.

Principal Lokesh Bihari Sharma thanked the participating schools, parents and partner organisations for supporting the initiative. He said the programme helped divert electronic waste from municipal landfills while encouraging environmental awareness among students.

The initiative linked classroom environmental education with practical community participation, giving students an opportunity to encourage responsible waste disposal within their schools and homes.
