Srinagar, Oct 28 (HS): Senior BJP leader and Leader of the Opposition in the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly Sunil Sharma on Wednesday claimed that the National Conference (NC) has split and that, in the days ahead, both the party and the government will break up.

Responding to reporters’ questions here, Sharma said a disgruntled group within the party is continuously demanding an end to dynastic rule. “I have said before that there is a rift within the National Conference, and it is now coming out in the open. Now we are waiting to see when it blows up. I have said repeatedly that this party has broken. People should wait. The party will fall apart, and so will the government, because things are moving in that direction,” he said.

Dismissing rumours that the BJP has been reaching out to NC MLAs, he said his party was not in touch with any legislator. “When we don’t want to form a government, why would we approach them? This is their own fight. Why would we jump into it?” he said.

Asked about Dr Farooq Abdullah’s recent statement, Sharma said: “What was in his heart has finally come to his lips. This family has always sung Pakistan’s praises, and because of this family, hundreds of people have lost their lives here.” He said the timing of Farooq Abdullah’s statement could be part of a conspiracy.

The BJP leader added that the people of Jammu and Kashmir believe their future is secure only with India.
