New Delhi, 28 October (H.S.): Union Jal Shakti Minister on Wednesday launched the Punah Bharan mobile application, developed by BISAG-N in collaboration with the National Water Mission (NWM), under the Department of Water Resources, River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation, to support scientific planning for groundwater recharge.

The application enables users to identify potential artificial groundwater recharge zones within a radius of up to three kilometres and explore suitable recharge structures based on local conditions.

The accompanying web portal provides village-level zonation maps for Artificial Recharge Structures (ARS), along with Geographic Information System (GIS) tools and thematic layers to assist planning for sustainable groundwater management.

The platform uses geospatial datasets, including rainfall, groundwater levels, groundwater yield, slope and drainage, to identify potential recharge areas and help users plan appropriate interventions.

The initiative seeks to support evidence-based groundwater recharge planning through the use of geospatial technology.
