Chennai, 28 Oct (H.S.):
The cancellations affect services in both directions. Airport authorities announced the suspensions as a precaution to ensure passenger and crew safety amid adverse weather conditions at destination airports and along the flight routes.
The India Meteorological Department has forecast that Arnab will intensify into a very severe cyclonic storm before crossing the Andhra Pradesh coast on Wednesday. Winds are expected to reach 125–135 kilometres per hour, with gusts touching 150 kilometres per hour.
The Ministry of Civil Aviation said operations at Visakhapatnam airport had been suspended since Tuesday afternoon. All flight operations at Vijayawada and Rajahmundry were suspended after 7 p.m. on Tuesday as authorities prepared for the storm.
Airlines have informed passengers about the cancellations. Those affected should contact their carriers for information on alternative travel arrangements, rebooking options and refunds applicable to their tickets.
Passengers have been advised to check flight status through airline websites, mobile applications, helplines or text messages before leaving for the airport. They should travel to the airport only after confirming that their services will operate.
The ministry has directed airlines to provide updates on delays and cancellations and comply with applicable rebooking and refund requirements. Airlines and airport operators have also been asked to assist passengers requiring support.
Travellers in affected coastal areas should allow extra time to reach airports, as waterlogging and road closures could disrupt access. Passengers with onward connections should check their itineraries for possible changes.
Flight services will resume subject to weather conditions and operational assessments. Further schedule changes remain possible as the cyclone advances, and passengers should continue monitoring airline advisories for updates on their travel plans.
