New Delhi, 28 October (H.S.): The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Wednesday expressed deep regret over Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s reported remarks about launching a movement that could adversely affect India’s economy. The party said that with the public and legislators no longer standing firmly behind him, Gandhi should recognise that his political efforts had failed to secure popular support.

BJP spokesperson and Rajya Sabha MP Sudhanshu Trivedi criticised Gandhi, alleging that he had spoken about launching a movement that could disrupt India’s economy after returning from a foreign trip. Trivedi claimed that neither the public nor legislators were supporting the Congress leader and that his political activities were failing to attract popular backing.

“After spending nearly two weeks sightseeing and travelling for leisure, Rahul Gandhi is now talking about launching a movement to create problems for India’s economy. However, neither the public nor legislators are with him. He should understand that he has been completely unsuccessful. Public support is earned through hard work, not by travelling for leisure,” Trivedi said.

The BJP MP also questioned Gandhi’s political engagement, asserting that the Congress leader needed to work at the grassroots level and strengthen his connection with the public. He claimed that Gandhi had been unsuccessful in achieving his political objectives.

Referring to the BJP’s organisational activities, Trivedi said that party president Nitin Nabin was scheduled to visit Uttar Pradesh, while Union Home Minister Amit Shah was in Punjab. He contrasted these engagements with Gandhi’s travels, criticising the Congress leader over his recent trip.

In his remarks, Trivedi also referred to “Champa”, describing it as the ancient name of Vietnam, and used the reference to criticise Gandhi’s travels.
