Guwahati, 28 October (HS): Assam has exported 123 kg of agarwood chips to Dubai, marking a step forward in expanding the state's presence in the global trade market and creating opportunities for the agarwood industry.

Assam Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma shared the development in a social media post on Wednesday, highlighting the state's fragrant heritage and the contribution of the agarwood sector to the economy.

The Chief Minister said the export would provide a boost to Assam's global trade footprint and benefit the more than 50,000 farmers and workers associated with the sector.

Agarwood, valued for its distinctive fragrance and widely used in the perfume, incense and traditional industries, is an important forest-based product with significant commercial potential. The export is expected to highlight Assam's agarwood resources in international markets and strengthen opportunities for those involved in its cultivation, processing and trade.

The development also underscores efforts to expand market access for Assam's traditional products and connect local producers with international buyers.-------------
