Prayagraj, Oct 27 (HS): Dr. Prateek Kumar a technical
official stated that due to potential weather changes and the impact of Cyclone
Arnab, heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected in several districts of eastern
Uttar Pradesh from October 28 to 30. Farmers have been advised to protect their
standing crops, harvested produce, and vegetable crops in anticipation of the
potential inclement weather.
According to agricultural meteorological experts, continuous
rainfall can cause damage to fields by flooding, crop failure, and even wet
harvested produce. Therefore, farmers need to plan their agricultural
operations based on weather forecasts and take necessary precautions.
Farmers have been advised to complete harvesting of standing
crops as soon as possible, provided weather conditions are favorable. Store
harvested paddy and other agricultural produce in a safe, elevated location,
and cover any produce stored outdoors with tarpaulin to prevent damage from
rain. To protect sugarcane crops from falling in strong winds, tie up leaves
and provide support for the crop as needed.
Additionally, construct proper drains to drain excess water
from standing crops and vegetable fields. Avoid waterlogging in seedling-stage
rapeseed and mustard crops. Sowing and transplanting new vegetables is
recommended until the weather returns and the field moisture is adequate. Avoid
spraying pesticides and fertilizers during adverse weather.
Farmers have been urged to avoid working in the fields and
to avoid sheltering under trees during thunderstorms and lightning. Regularly
follow the India Meteorological Department (IMD) weather forecasts and related
agrometeorological advisories for the latest weather information.
