New Delhi, 27 October (H.S.): A delegation of faculty members and students from the Central University of Tamil Nadu (CUTN) visited the University of Delhi (DU) on Tuesday under the seventh phase of the Yuva Sangam programme, organised as part of the ‘Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat’ initiative.
The inaugural ceremony of this phase of Yuva Sangam was held at the Vice-Regal Lodge of Delhi University.
Welcoming the students from Tamil Nadu, DU Vice-Chancellor Professor Yogesh Singh said Delhi represented the whole of India and encouraged the visiting students to consider themselves an integral part of the university.
He observed that whether one travelled to Delhi, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat or any other part of the country, expressions and languages might differ, but the country and its people remained the same. This diversity, he said, was one of the defining strengths of India.
Addressing the students, Singh highlighted Tamil Nadu’s significant contribution to India’s cultural heritage. He said the state had a distinctive civilisation and a rich historical legacy, reflected in its exceptional literature, classical music, devotional traditions and cultural practices.
The Vice-Chancellor also urged the visiting students to build lasting friendships during their stay in Delhi. He encouraged each student to leave the capital with at least five close friends and remain in touch with them after returning home.
Motivating the young participants, Singh said every citizen had a responsibility to love the country, understand it in depth and contribute in every possible way to its progress and development. He added that such programmes were much more than formal events, serving as unique platforms for the exchange of ideas, experiences and emotions among people from diverse regions, cultures and traditions.
Professor K. P. Singh, Director of Gandhi Bhawan at Delhi University and the nodal officer for the Yuva Sangam programme, underscored its importance as a key pillar of the ‘Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat’ vision. He said the initiative was not merely a journey but an important effort to strengthen linguistic and cultural ties among different parts of the country.
Several senior university officials and academicians attended the programme, including DU Dean of Colleges Professor Balram Pani, Non-Collegiate Women’s Education Board (NCWEB) Director Professor Geeta Bhatt, Dean of Students’ Welfare Professor Ranjan Tripathi and Dean of Planning Professor Niranjan Kumar, along with principals of various colleges affiliated with the university.
