CPI leaders and party workers march in protest against the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC).

New Delhi, 27 October (H.S.): The Communist Party of India (CPI) held a protest march in the national capital on Tuesday, demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and an immediate halt to the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.

Protesters raised slogans against Kumar, reiterating their demand for his resignation and calling for the SIR exercise to be suspended immediately.

The protest comes amid changes to the designated venues for demonstrations in Delhi. Authorities have withdrawn Jantar Mantar’s status as an authorised protest site and notified three alternative locations for public demonstrations. Ramlila Maidan is among the designated venues.

The Congress is scheduled to hold a rally at Ramlila Maidan on November 1 to protest against the Chief Election Commissioner and the SIR exercise.
