Bengaluru, 27 Oct (H.S.): Karnataka’s final electoral roll, published on Tuesday following the completion of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR), lists 4,54,55,689 voters, with women outnumbering men, according to figures announced by Chief Electoral Officer Anbukumar.
Addressing a press conference, Anbukumar said the updated electorate comprised 2,24,40,493 men, 2,29,12,355 women and 2,841 third-gender voters. Women account for 4,71,862 more electors than men in the final list.
The Chief Electoral Officer said 99,76,625 names had been removed during the revision exercise. The deletions were described as part of the process of identifying and removing ineligible or invalid entries from the electoral rolls.
However, the information provided did not include a category-wise breakdown of the deletions or specify how many entries were removed for each reason. The aggregate figure should therefore not be interpreted as representing fraudulent registrations alone.
Before the SIR exercise began, Karnataka had 5,54,32,814 registered voters. The draft electoral roll subsequently listed 4,46,35,975 electors, while the final roll shows an increase of 8,19,714 voters over the draft figure.
The publication of the final list marks the completion of the revision process announced by the election authorities. The figures released at the briefing indicate a substantial reduction in the electorate compared with the pre-revision total.
There is, however, a discrepancy requiring clarification: the difference between the stated pre-revision electorate and the final total is 99,77,125, which is 500 more than the deletion figure announced. The available information does not explain this difference.
Alongside the revision of the electoral rolls, the number of polling booths in Karnataka has increased by 390, taking the statewide total to 41,888.
The final figures were presented as the state’s electoral position as of October 27, 2026. Further clarification from election authorities would be needed to reconcile the numerical discrepancy and establish the detailed grounds for the reported deletions.
