Goalpara (Assam), 26 October (HS): Residents of several areas in Assam’s Goalpara district are living in fear following the movement of a large herd of wild elephants. The herd, comprising around 40 to 50 elephants, has reportedly wreaked havoc in agricultural fields last night, consuming and damaging standing paddy crops.

The incident has triggered concern among local farmers, who fear significant losses as the elephants continue to raid their fields. The destruction of the paddy crop has left farmers distressed, with their livelihoods under threat.

The movement of such a large herd has also created panic among residents in the affected areas. The situation highlights the continuing human-elephant conflict in the region, where wild elephants frequently venture into agricultural fields in search of food.-----------
