Kolkata, 26 October (H.S.) :

Railway police successfully thwarted an arms smuggling attempt at the New Jalpaiguri (NJP) railway station, arresting two youths from Bihar with firearms. The arrests were made following a joint search operation in the general compartment of the Vivek Express. The accused have been identified as Rohan Kumar (20) and Guddu Kumar (19).

According to police sources, the Special Operations Group (SOG) of the Siliguri Government Railway Police (GRP) and the NJP GRP conducted a joint drive late Sunday night. During the operation, officers thoroughly searched the general coach of the Down Vivek Express upon its arrival at platform number six. Acting on suspicion, the security personnel detained the two youths. A subsequent search of their school bags led to the recovery of the illegal firearms.

The NJP GRP is slated to produce both accused before the Jalpaiguri court today, where they will seek police remand for further investigation into the arms smuggling network.
