knowledge, action and tradition in Prayag: Nandi
JNU discusses Prayag's rich cultural heritage, literary
traditions, historical significance and unique identity
Religious, cultural and educational heritage of Prayagraj discussed
in Prayag Utsav
Prayagraj, Oct 26 (HS): The Prayag-Delhi Sangam organized
Prayag Utsav 2026 at the Convention Center of Jawaharlal Nehru
University (JNU), New Delhi. Nand Gopal Gupta Nandi, Industrial Development
Minister of the Uttar Pradesh Government and MLA of Prayagraj City South,
attended the event as the chief guest. The aim of this festival was to connect
people with the rich cultural heritage, literary traditions, historical
significance and unique identity of Prayagraj.
Prayag Utsav brought together people who live, study or work
in Prayagraj, those with ancestral connections to the city and those interested
in its cultural and intellectual heritage. While interacting with hundreds of people who know,
understand and live Prayagraj in the country's capital Delhi, Minister Nandi
said that to understand Prayagraj, one has to go beyond geography and feel its
soul. Prayag has many streams of tradition, but there is also a broad cultural
consciousness that connects them all. This is Prayag's identity. This is its
soul.
Minister Nandi said that the confluence of Prayag is not
just the meeting of three rivers. Here is the confluence of faith and reason.
Here is the confluence of knowledge and action. Here is the confluence of
tradition and change. Our tradition of the Kumbh and Magh Melas is a testament to
this vast consciousness. The sages, saints, pilgrims, and devotees who come
from across the country and the world speak different languages, dress
differently, and have different social backgrounds. But upon arriving at the
confluence, everyone becomes part of a shared cultural experience. This is the
true strength of Indian culture. Our diversity is not our weakness, but our
greatest strength. Prayag is a living symbol of this.
Minister Nandi said that our traditions connect us to our
roots, and modernity gives us the courage to look to new horizons. We should be
proud of our heritage, but also be open to new ideas. Prime Minister Narendra
Modi has given the mantra of Heritage with Development based on
this spirit.
He said that Prayagraj has given the country ideas,
literature, leadership, and inspired young people to realize their dreams.
Allahabad University and other educational institutions have been important
centers for the development of innovative ideas, intellectual discourse, and
social consciousness. Students from here have demonstrated their talent and abilities
in various fields across the country.
Minister Nandi said that Prayag teaches us that unity does
not mean becoming alike. The true meaning of unity is to walk together despite
being different. Minister Nandi said, Don't limit Prayag's heritage to
just your memories. Make it a part of your behavior and your resolve. Prayag's
spiritual, cultural, educational, and historical consciousness will continue to
inspire us all in this direction.
