Morigaon (Assam), 26 October (HS): The charred remains of a 25-year-old man who had been missing for a week were recovered from a toilet tank atop Baha Hill in the Mayong area of Assam’s Morigaon district, police said on Monday. The deceased, identified as Zahir Islam, was a resident of Khalabhuya village and the owner of a broiler poultry farm.
According to the available information, Islam, a father of three, had been missing since October 18. His family subsequently lodged a missing person complaint with the police, prompting an investigation into his disappearance.
During the investigation, police recovered his charred remains from the toilet tank. The circumstances surrounding the recovery have raised suspicions that he may have been killed at another location before his body was burned and disposed of to destroy evidence.
Following the recovery, police detained a woman identified as Jesmine for questioning over her suspected involvement in the case.
Further investigation is underway to establish the circumstances leading to Islam’s death and determine the involvement of others, if any. Police are yet to establish the exact sequence of events surrounding the alleged murder.----------
