New Delhi, 26 October (H.S.): Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Monday inspected preparations for the Chhath Mahaparv at Sur Ghat and directed officials to complete all pending work well before the festival.
She instructed the concerned departments to undertake comprehensive cleaning of the ghat premises, carry out necessary repairs and repaint the areas requiring attention to ensure that the site is clean, well-maintained and presentable. She emphasised that deteriorated sections that had remained in poor condition for years should be properly repaired rather than merely patched up as a temporary measure.
Delhi Tourism Minister Kapil Mishra and senior officials from the departments concerned were present during the inspection.
During the inspection,CM Gupta directed officials to immediately address damaged gates, rusted structures, sections requiring repairs and other shortcomings in cleanliness and maintenance. She made it clear that negligence in the preparations would not be tolerated.
Reviewing the lighting arrangements, the Chief Minister instructed officials to ensure adequate illumination on both sides of the ghat. She also directed them to inspect all lights and repair or replace those that were not functioning properly.
After identifying deficiencies in the water supply arrangements, CM Gupta sought explanations from officials and ordered them to check the water connections and ensure adequate facilities for devotees to bathe.
Expressing concern over the poor condition of toilets and other basic amenities, she directed the authorities to undertake immediate cleaning, repairs and proper maintenance. She stressed that preparing plans alone was insufficient and that all facilities must be fully operational and fit for use.
The Chief Minister reviewed the ongoing works and their completion schedules. Pointing to the absence of a clear action plan and the need to address existing deficiencies, she instructed all concerned departments to coordinate closely and complete every pending task within the stipulated timeframe.
She emphasised that preparations should not be left until the day of the festival and that all arrangements must be in place well in advance to prevent inconvenience to devotees.
CM Gupta directed officials to accord the highest priority to cleaning, repairs, painting, lighting, security and other facilities required for the smooth observance of Chhath Mahaparv. She reiterated that any negligence in completing the preparations would be unacceptable.
The Chief Minister said Chhath Mahaparv held deep religious and emotional significance for millions of families from the Purvanchal region living in Delhi, as the festival reflected their faith, cultural traditions and enduring connection with their roots.
She said it was the government’s responsibility to provide every devotee observing the fast with a clean, safe and convenient environment.
CM Gupta added that the government was working to ensure that the preparations respected the faith of every devotee and addressed the needs of every family celebrating the festival.
