Varanasi, 25 October (H.S.): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday inaugurated a new garment manufacturing facility of Arvind Limited at Khochawan in the Mirzamurad area of his parliamentary constituency, Varanasi, and interacted with women who have undergone training and are employed at the unit. During his visit, the Prime Minister inspected the facility, reviewed its manufacturing infrastructure and learnt about the women’s experiences with training and employment.
PM Modi arrived at Khochawan aboard a special helicopter, where he was received by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, other dignitaries and representatives of Arvind Limited. Following the welcome, he toured the industrial facility and was briefed on its production infrastructure, operational arrangements and manufacturing capabilities.
The garment manufacturing unit has been established with an investment estimated at Rs 100 crore to Rs 150 crore. It will produce a range of apparel, including sportswear, undergarments, shirts and T-shirts. The company also plans to export products manufactured at the facility, potentially expanding its reach in domestic and international apparel markets.
The project is expected to generate direct employment for more than 1,000 people, with local women likely to constitute a substantial proportion of the workforce. Training initiatives have been undertaken to prepare women for employment and equip them with the skills required for garment manufacturing operations.
The facility places particular emphasis on expanding production capacity while promoting local skill development and women’s employment. The initiative is expected to contribute to Uttar Pradesh’s efforts to attract industrial investment, strengthen manufacturing-led economic activity and create employment opportunities closer to workers’ homes.
During the inauguration, Modi spoke directly with women who had completed training and those already working at the facility. He listened to their accounts of the training process, their working experiences and the opportunities available to them through the project.
By creating employment opportunities within the local area, the facility is expected to support women’s economic independence while encouraging the expansion of textile and garment manufacturing activities in the region. The initiative also seeks to connect industrial investment with workforce development and broader economic participation.
