Varanasi, 25 October (H.S.): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday inaugurated a manufacturing plant of Arvind Limited, also known as Arvind Mills, established at an investment of approximately Rs 150 crore in Khochwan, in the Mirzamurad area of his parliamentary constituency, Varanasi. Developed across an area of around seven to eight acres, the facility is expected to create fresh employment opportunities across Varanasi and other districts of the Purvanchal region.

Following the inauguration, the Prime Minister interacted with women undergoing training at the facility and enquired about their work, experiences and training.

Headquartered in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, Arvind Limited’s new facility is the company’s first major manufacturing plant in the Purvanchal region. The project is expected to generate new employment opportunities, with local women being given priority in recruitment. More than 300 women have already been recruited and are undergoing training in various production-related activities.

According to the company’s plans, the plant will be expanded in a second phase. The proposed expansion is expected to create employment opportunities for thousands of people in the coming years. The facility will manufacture a range of garments, including sportswear and undergarments. It will also produce clothing for prominent brands such as Jockey, US Polo and Arrow.

The industrial initiative is expected to strengthen the textile and garment manufacturing sector in the region and encourage further industrial activity in eastern Uttar Pradesh.

Established in 1931, Arvind Limited is among India’s leading textile manufacturers. The Ahmedabad-headquartered company operates across several stages of textile production, from yarn and fabric to finished garments and specialised textiles for industrial applications. Its product portfolio includes denim, cotton and linen fabrics, suiting materials and sportswear. The company also supplies fabrics to domestic and international apparel brands.

After inaugurating the plant, Prime Minister Modi received a briefing from company officials on the manufacturing process, the garments being produced, textiles made from khadi and the materials used in their manufacture.

The Prime Minister also held a direct interaction with women undergoing training under the initiative’s concept, ‘Apna Hunar, Apni Pehchaan’ (Our Skills, Our Identity). He sought detailed information about their work, training experiences and the challenges they faced.

PM Modi also toured an exhibition showcasing a variety of garments manufactured by Arvind Limited. He reviewed the participation of women in the production unit and enquired about the training facilities being provided to them.

Uttar Pradesh Governor Anandiben Patel, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and other dignitaries were present at the inauguration. Earlier, the Governor and the Chief Minister welcomed the Prime Minister upon his arrival at the helipad in Khochwan, Mirzamurad.
