Guwahati, 25 October (HS): The 139th episode of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s monthly radio programme ‘Mann Ki Baat’ was broadcast across the country on Sunday, marking 12 years of the popular programme that has emerged as a platform for highlighting the achievements and contributions of ordinary citizens.
In a press statement issued by the Assam Pradesh BJP headquarters, party spokesperson Pranjal Kalita said Modi described the programme’s 12-year journey as a sacred pilgrimage. Launched on Vijayadashami 12 years ago, ‘Mann Ki Baat’ has evolved beyond a radio broadcast into a social movement celebrating the dedication, hard work and determination of common people.
With Diwali and the festive season approaching, the Prime Minister urged people to purchase indigenous products, support local artisans and craftsmen, and promote khadi as part of the ‘Vocal for Local’ initiative.
During the latest episode, Modi highlighted the inspiring transformation of women from Punjab, including Ramandeep Kaur, Rekha Rani and Suneha Devi, who received training at a weaving school and established themselves as skilled artisans producing shawls and fabrics. A shawl made by Rekha Rani was also presented to the President of India, the statement said.
Emphasising the growing global reach of Indian products, Modi cited Bihar’s makhana, or fox nuts, which have found markets in countries such as Greece. He also stressed the importance of expanding international market access for agricultural products and improving opportunities for Indian farmers.
The Prime Minister also highlighted achievements in healthcare, scientific research and technological innovation, including the milestone of 50 crore teleconsultations through e-Sanjeevani, advanced brain-related research at IIT Madras, growing awareness about organ donation and the success of technology-driven startups. He also recalled the contributions of Narinder Singh Kapany, a pioneering researcher in fibre-optic science.
Kalita said that over the past 12 years, ‘Mann Ki Baat’ had gained widespread popularity in India and abroad by bringing forward inspiring stories of individuals from different regions and fields, while showcasing the country’s history, heritage, achievements and cultural richness.
The programme has encouraged millions of people to contribute to society and helped audiences across the world gain a deeper understanding of India, he added.
In the latest episode, Modi reiterated the importance of an Atmanirbhar Bharat, women’s empowerment and the role of youth in national development. He also highlighted millet cultivation in Khandula and Sadolpara villages of Meghalaya and Kezoma village in Nagaland, drawing attention to agricultural initiatives in the Northeast.
Meanwhile, Assam BJP president and Darang-Udalguri Lok Sabha MP Dilip Saikia listened to the programme alongside more than 100 party workers at Booth No. 14 under the Baljit Nagar Mandal in Delhi’s Karol Bagh district.
Across Assam, more than 10 lakh people listened to the broadcast at over 25,000 booths spread across 433 mandals in the BJP’s 39 organisational districts, the statement said.
At the conclusion of the programme, Modi appealed to people to participate in the ‘Run for Unity’ on October 31, commemorating the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, and called for strengthening peace, harmony and unity across the country.-----------
