New Delhi, 25 October (H.S.): Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah has praised a joint operation conducted by central investigative agencies and the police forces of Assam, Mizoram and Manipur, issuing a stern warning that no syndicate exploiting India’s international borders to endanger the country’s youth would be spared.
In a post on the social media platform X on Sunday, Amit Shah said the Modi government had dealt a major blow to an international narcotics cartel through ‘Operation Trident’, reaffirming its zero-tolerance policy towards drug trafficking and illicit networks.
According to Amit Shah, central security agencies and state police forces conducted simultaneous raids at 38 locations across Assam, Mizoram and Manipur on October 23, dismantling a major international drug trafficking network.
The operation uncovered evidence of hawala transactions worth approximately Rs 100 crore. Authorities froze 1,424 bank accounts linked to the network and attached assets valued at Rs 17.82 crore. During the raids, investigators also seized 500 detonators and Rs 12 lakh in cash, while 18 key accused were arrested in connection with the case.
According to investigating officials, the international narcotics syndicate allegedly exploited the so-called ‘Death Triangle Corridor’ to smuggle drugs across the international borders of India, Myanmar and Bangladesh.
The coordinated crackdown forms part of the Indian government’s broader commitment to eliminating drug trafficking networks across the country by December 31, 2029. Shah reiterated that enforcement operations would continue until narcotics cartels were completely dismantled.
The operation also highlights the importance of coordinated action between central agencies and state police forces in addressing cross-border drug trafficking, tracing illicit financial transactions and disrupting the networks that facilitate the narcotics trade.
Congratulating the personnel involved, Amit Shah commended the central agencies and police forces of the three northeastern states for their coordinated efforts against the international drug syndicate.
The Union government has set December 31, 2029, as its target for eliminating drug networks, with intensified enforcement, financial investigations and inter-agency coordination forming key components of its anti-narcotics strategy.
