Silchar (Assam), 25 October (HS): The Cachar Excise Department seized 2,472 bottles of illegal foreign liquor worth an estimated ₹14,48,500 during a raid in the Kalain area of Cachar district in Assam, officials said.
Acting on specific intelligence inputs, excise officials conducted an operation in Kalain and intercepted a consignment of illegal foreign liquor allegedly being transported through the area. Two individuals were detained on the spot in connection with the suspected smuggling attempt.
Following the seizure, a case has been registered and further investigation is underway to identify those involved in the illegal liquor trade and trace the supply network.
The investigation is also expected to examine whether the consignment was intended to be transported to neighbouring states, including Mizoram. The region is reportedly used as a transit route for the movement of illegal consignments.
The Excise Department is continuing its efforts to curb the transportation and distribution of illegal liquor in the region.-------------
