Kolkata, 24 October (H.S.): Acting on a tip-off, police from the Rupnarayanpur outpost arrested a 22-year-old youth and recovered a country-made firearm and a live cartridge from his possession at the Malbahal field. The accused has been identified as Govinda Yadav, a resident of Mihijam in neighboring Jharkhand. With this arrest, the police claim to have successfully foiled a potentially major criminal operation.

According to police sources, authorities received actionable intelligence regarding the presence of an armed suspect lurking in the Malbahal field. Acting swiftly, a special police team led by Rupnarayanpur Outpost In-charge Sumangal Sarkar cordoned off the area and conducted a raid, leading to Yadav's apprehension. A search of the suspect yielded a country-made firearm (desi katta) and one round of live ammunition.

Preliminary investigations have revealed that the accused has a significant criminal history, with several cases registered against him across different police stations. Investigators noted that his name had recently surfaced in connection with an incident a few months ago in Achhra, where shots were reportedly fired in the air during a local clash. However, police maintained that his exact role in that specific incident and his overall criminal footprint will be conclusively established only after a thorough probe.

Investigators suspect that Yadav had arrived at the Malbahal field armed with the intention of executing a major crime. The police are currently probing his exact motives, potential links to organized criminal gangs, and the procurement source of the illegal weapon.

The arrested accused was produced before the Asansol Court. Investigating officers have sought a seven-day police remand to interrogate him further, trace the origin of the firearm, and determine if other individuals were involved in his plans. The Rupnarayanpur outpost police are continuing a comprehensive investigation into all aspects of the case.
