New Tehri, 24 October (H.S.): A helicopter operating for the Char Dham pilgrimage made a precautionary landing at Baurari Stadium in New Tehri, Uttarakhand, on Saturday morning, with all six passengers from Mumbai reported safe. Officials said the aircraft was inspected for a possible technical issue before resuming its journey to Guptkashi.
The helicopter, operated by Trans Bharat Aviation, was travelling from Sahastradhara to Guptkashi when it landed at the stadium at around 8 a.m. on Saturday.
According to the pilot, the landing was precautionary and did not constitute an emergency landing. The aircraft underwent an inspection to assess a suspected technical issue, following which it took off again for Guptkashi.
Local residents Parmanand Maithani and Vikram Singh Negi said they were out for their morning walk when they saw the helicopter descend rapidly onto the stadium grounds. Children were also playing on the field at the time but moved towards the sidelines as the helicopter approached.
The landing raised a stir among people in the surrounding area, as a considerable amount of dust was kicked up across the stadium grounds.
