Guwahati, 24 October (HS): Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has introduced a new dining, shopping and recreation facility at Guwahati Railway Station with the inauguration of ‘The Terminal’, in aimed at enhancing amenities and providing visitors with a comfortable leisure space.

The NFR CPRO Kapinjal Kishor Sharma informed on Saturday that the facility was inaugurated on October 23 by NFR General Manager Chetan Kumar Shrivastava in the presence of Principal Chief Commercial Manager Niraj Sahay and Lumding Divisional Railway Manager Samir Lohani. Located in the former Passenger Reservation System building area on Station Road in Panbazar, the facility caters to passengers, families and other visitors.

Developed by the Lumding Division under the New Innovative Non-Fare Revenue Ideas Scheme (NINFRIS), the project has converted an underutilised railway property into a commercial and recreational hub. Spread across 27,381 square feet, the facility has been awarded to Fusion Edge Solution under a five-year contract valued at ₹2.27 crore.

‘The Terminal’ features a dining zone with national and international quick-service restaurant brands, a flea market offering local handicrafts, souvenirs and other retail products, and an indoor soft play area for children. The marketplace is also expected to provide regional artisans with an opportunity to showcase their products and reach a wider customer base.

The facility includes dedicated seating arrangements, thematic lighting, landscaped spaces and modern interiors. Safety, hygiene, fire protection and security provisions have also been incorporated in accordance with railway standards.

According to NFR, the initiative seeks to improve passenger convenience while promoting regional commerce and generating sustainable non-fare revenue through the innovative utilisation of railway assets.-----------
