Amravati, 24 Oct (HS): A farmer from Anjangaobari in
Amravati district destroyed about 5000 banana plants in three acres of agricultural
land. The farmer, Ravindra Metkar, took the extreme step to destroy the plantation
using a tractor after investing about 4 lakhs on buying saplings, irrigation, farm
land operations etc. Given the market rate, transportation expenses and
production cost, he estimated losses and destroyed the plantation.
Imbalance I returns due to low market prices and compared
to the capital investment, he decided to destroy the plantation and planning
for another crop. Metkar said that the banana growers are facing a similar
situation.
