Guwahati, 24 October (HS): Dispur Police have arrested Abdul Gafur, an alleged fake currency racket operator, from Mangaldoi on Friday night.

According to the official sources on Saturday, Gafur came under the police scanner after Ajay Biswakarma, who had earlier been arrested by Dispur Police in connection with the fake currency racket, reportedly named him during interrogation.

Biswakarma had allegedly revealed that a fake currency trade was operating on a large scale in Guwahati under Gafur's leadership. Following the disclosures, Dispur Police intensified their efforts to trace and apprehend the alleged kingpin.

Police arrested Gafur from Mangaldoi on Friday night and brought him into custody for further questioning. He is currently being subjected to intensive interrogation by Dispur Police to ascertain the extent of the racket, identify other individuals involved and determine how the counterfeit currency was circulated.
