Kolkata, 24 October (H.S.): Tension gripped the Taldi area under Canning police station in South 24 Parganas district on Saturday morning after a local CPI(M) party office was found severely vandalized. Miscreants allegedly broke into the office on Friday night, smashing television sets, ripping out electrical wiring, and destroying furniture.

According to reports, the attackers broke the lock of an old almirah and ransacked the belongings inside. Furthermore, two ceiling fans were reportedly uninstalled and stolen from the premises. The local CPI(M) leadership has leveled serious allegations against BJP-backed miscreants, claiming this is a continuation of recent attacks, as several of their bookstalls were also targeted and vandalized during the Durga Puja days.

Outraged by the extent of the destruction, CPI(M) workers termed the incident a clear case of political vendetta. Describing the scene, a local CPI(M) worker stated, The party office was open till Friday evening, and our workers were present. But this morning, we found that not a single table, chair, fan, or TV was left intact. The almirah was broken open. It is a completely chaotic and ugly situation.

Hinting at the perpetrators, the worker added, We had been receiving threats for the past few days. For a long time, our primary political opposition has been the Trinamool Congress (TMC). While they are the ruling party and we have had physical clashes where our workers were beaten up, they never resorted to vandalizing our party offices or bookstalls in this manner. The recent sequence of events makes it very clear who is behind these cowardly acts. We are approaching the police.

Meanwhile, the local BJP leadership has officially refrained from making detailed public statements regarding the incident. However, they have vehemently denied the allegations, asserting that no worker from their party is involved in the vandalism.

Local police have confirmed that a formal complaint is being registered and an investigation has been initiated to identify and apprehend the culprits behind the overnight attack.
