Kolkata, 23 October (H.S.) :

Police have arrested two more individuals in connection with the murder of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) worker Samir Ghosh in Malda. The accused, identified as Shatru Ghosh and Choton Ghosh, were apprehended on Thursday night. Both are reportedly known in the area as local Trinamool Congress (TMC) workers. This brings the total number of arrests in the case to three, including the primary accused, Ranjan Ghosh, who was taken into custody earlier.

The incident occurred on Wednesday evening during Vijaya Dashami in the Ramkeli area under the Englishbazar police station. According to reports, while locals were occupied with idol immersion, a group of assailants barged into Samir Ghosh's residence. The attackers allegedly hacked him with sharp weapons and fired shots before fleeing. Ghosh was rushed to a local hospital but could not be saved.

The victim's brother, Vivek Ghosh, stated that Samir had been an active BJP worker for a long time and alleged that a prolonged political dispute with local TMC workers culminated in the fatal attack. Following the incident, the family lodged a written police complaint naming eight individuals. Acting on the FIR, police forces, assisted by central armed personnel, launched a massive search operation. The prime accused, Ranjan Ghosh, was subsequently arrested while undergoing treatment at a hospital.

The two newly arrested suspects, Shatru and Choton Ghosh, were produced before the Malda District Court on Friday. The Superintendent of Police stated that the police would seek their custodial remand to interrogate them and track down the remaining suspects.

Following the murder, local BJP leadership visited the grieving family to offer support. BJP District President Ajoy Ganguly confirmed that the deceased was a dedicated party worker who had been entrusted with booth management responsibilities ahead of the assembly elections. Police are continuing their investigation to uncover the exact motive and apprehend all those involved.
