Kolkata, 23 October (H.S.) :

Acting on specific intelligence, the Bagdogra police successfully foiled a major narcotics smuggling attempt on Thursday night, arresting two youths and seizing a substantial quantity of brown sugar. The accused, identified as Izrail Haque and Wasi Ahmed, both residents of Kaliachak in the Malda district, were apprehended while allegedly attempting to deliver the contraband to local peddlers in Siliguri.

According to police sources, the interception took place near the Muni Tea Estate along the Kolkata-Siliguri National Highway. During a targeted search operation, law enforcement officers intercepted the two suspicious individuals and recovered exactly 277 grams of brown sugar from their possession. Preliminary investigations revealed that the duo had transported the illicit drugs all the way from Kaliachak with a meticulously planned supply route terminating in the Siliguri area.

Following the on-the-spot arrests and seizure, the Bagdogra police registered a formal case against both the accused under the stringent provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. Law enforcement officials confirmed that the arrested individuals will be produced before the Siliguri court on Friday, where the police are expected to seek their custodial remand for further interrogation to unearth the broader narcotics supply network and identify other key players involved in this cross-district smuggling ring.
