Defence Minister Unveils Land Warfare Doctrine to Provide Indian Army with Comprehensive Framework for Future Conflicts
New Delhi, October 23(HS): Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Friday called upon Army commanders to maintain constant operational preparedness, adopt a long-term strategic outlook and remain equipped to address emerging challenges. Addressing the Army Commanders’ Conference in New Delhi, he released the Land Warfare Doctrine and felicitated three Indian Army personnel for their exemplary service in United Nations peacekeeping missions.
Emphasising the changing nature of modern warfare, Singh advocated an integrated approach to military operations, stressing that success would increasingly depend on multi-domain capabilities and seamless coordination in joint operations.
He said Operation Sindoor had demonstrated the importance of innovative thinking, enhanced coordination and the effective use of advanced weaponry. The Defence Minister urged Army commanders to closely monitor geopolitical developments and regional security dynamics while preparing for future challenges.
Highlighting the need for a long-term strategic vision spanning the next 20 to 30 years, Singh called on the Army’s senior leadership to remain equally prepared to respond to immediate threats and unforeseen challenges. He stressed that military strategies must remain dynamic and flexible, allowing timely adjustments in response to changing circumstances.
Commending the defence forces for adapting to evolving operational conditions, Singh said innovative approaches, improved coordination and advanced weapon systems had contributed to the success of Operation Sindoor. He added that the operation had conveyed a clear message that India would not hesitate to take necessary measures to safeguard its national interests.
The Defence Minister underscored the importance of strengthening military capabilities, continuously assessing operational performance and implementing necessary reforms in line with changing requirements. He also stressed the need to accelerate efforts in emerging technological fields, including artificial intelligence, autonomous systems, data analytics, cybersecurity and secure communication networks.
Singh observed that despite the growing significance of air, maritime, space and cyber domains, land warfare and ground forces would continue to remain indispensable. He called for a comprehensive approach to modern warfare, noting that operational effectiveness would depend on the integration of capabilities across multiple domains and smooth coordination among the armed forces.
The Defence Minister also acknowledged the efforts being made to achieve self-reliance in defence production. He said India's expanding domestic defence manufacturing capabilities reflected the collective efforts of stakeholders across the sector.
During the conference, Singh released the Land Warfare Doctrine, which provides an overarching framework to prepare the Indian Army for the evolving character of warfare and the challenges posed by future conflicts.
He also unveiled the annual United Nations Journal and felicitated Indian Army personnel who had made notable contributions while serving as United Nations peacekeepers. The honours recognised their exemplary service, professionalism and contribution to international peace and security under the United Nations banner.
