Sidhi District to Get Rail Connectivity for the First Time Since Independence as 118-Km Rail Sections Open Tomorrow

New Delhi, 23 October (H.S.): A significant milestone in the expansion of railway connectivity across the Vindhya region of Madhya Pradesh will be achieved on Saturday, with Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw and Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav scheduled to inaugurate two railway sections — the 53-km Satna–Devendranagar section and the 65-km Rewa–Churhat section. They will also flag off a new train service between Devendranagar and Churhat. With these sections becoming operational, Sidhi district will be connected to the railway network for the first time since Independence.

According to the Ministry of Railways, the two sections, spanning a combined length of 118 km, have been developed under the Lalitpur–Singrauli New Railway Line Project. Their commissioning is expected to strengthen passenger transportation and freight movement across the Vindhya region while creating fresh opportunities for industrial development, trade, tourism and employment.

The Ministry stated that a record allocation of Rs 15,188 crore had been earmarked for railway development in Madhya Pradesh for the financial year 2026–27. Railway projects worth approximately Rs 1,18,379 crore are currently under way in the state. The Lalitpur–Singrauli railway line is expected to improve connectivity across areas including Panna, Satna, Rewa, Sidhi and Singrauli, helping link mineral-rich regions with major industrial and transportation hubs across the country.

The commissioning of the Satna–Devendranagar section will improve rail connectivity for Satna, Nagod, Devendranagar and surrounding areas. The enhanced connectivity is expected to support limestone-based industries and cement plants while providing a boost to local trade, industrial activity, education and employment opportunities.

Meanwhile, the 65-km Rewa–Churhat section will strengthen railway connectivity between Rewa and Sidhi. Constructed across hilly terrain, the section incorporates several major engineering works, including railway bridges and tunnels. These include a tunnel measuring 3.33 km. The route is also expected to facilitate the transportation of limestone, cement, clinker and other freight in the future.

The introduction of the Devendranagar–Churhat train service will provide an additional travel option for local residents, students, employees and traders. Improved connectivity between neighbouring areas is expected to facilitate access to educational institutions and workplaces while encouraging commercial activity and employment generation.

The new railway sections are also expected to boost tourism in the Vindhya region, which is home to several religious, historical and natural attractions, including the White Tiger Safari at Mukundpur. Better rail connectivity is likely to make these destinations more accessible to visitors and benefit local businesses, hotels and transport services.

Several public representatives are expected to attend the inauguration programmes at the respective railway stations. The event at Churhat railway station will be attended by Madhya Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Rajendra Shukla, Rewa Member of Parliament Dr. Rajesh Mishra and Sidhi MP Rajesh Mishra, along with other public representatives.

At the programme scheduled at Nagod railway station, Minister of State Pratima Bagri, Satna MP Ganesh Singh, Khajuraho MP Vishnu Datt Sharma and Nagod MLA Nagendra Singh will be among those present, along with other dignitaries.
