Mumbai, 23 October (H.S.): Mumbai Police tightened security outside Bollywood megastar Amitabh Bachchan’s bungalow, Jalsa, on Friday following a bomb threat against the property.
Amid the heightened security, police detained a young man who had been standing outside the bungalow for an extended period, suspecting unusual activity. During questioning, however, the man told the police that he had visited the location to take a selfie. He was subsequently released.
According to a police official, two threatening emails were received on Friday morning in the email account of the Mumbai Mayor’s Office. One of the messages threatened bomb blasts at the Mayor’s Office and several schools, while a second email also mentioned Bachchan’s bungalow, Jalsa.
The second message reportedly threatened to blow up the bungalow sometime between October 31 and November 27. Following the threats, police strengthened security arrangements and increased surveillance in the surrounding area.
Bachchan’s residence frequently attracts crowds of admirers, many of whom gather outside the bungalow to take selfies and record videos. However, in view of the threat, the police are taking additional precautions and closely monitoring the movement and activities of people in the vicinity.
Security agencies remain on alert as the police investigate the threatening emails and seek to establish their credibility. Further official information regarding the investigation and the authenticity of the threats is awaited.
