Shillong, Oct
23 (H.S.): The Meghalaya government has sought additional security forces to
strengthen law and order in Shillong amid continuing petrol bomb attacks and
incidents of arson, Deputy Chief Minister in charge of Home and Police Prestone
Tynsong has said.
Tynsong said
the government had held review meetings to assess the situation, while the
district administration was taking measures to prevent further incidents. He
said the authorities were pursuing those involved in the attacks and warned
that strict action would be taken against anyone found responsible.
The incidents
have raised concerns over security in the state capital, particularly as petrol
bomb attacks reportedly increased during the Durga Puja celebrations.
A few Puja
pandals were also targeted, triggering concern among organisers and devotees.
However, no casualties were reported in these incidents.
The Deputy
Chief Minister urged government establishments to strengthen CCTV surveillance
and ensure that government vehicles and other assets were parked in secure
locations to minimise the risk of further attacks.
Tynsong,
however, cautioned against attributing the incidents to any particular group or
organisation at this stage, saying it was too early to draw such conclusions.
He said the authorities were continuing their efforts to identify those
responsible and bring them to justice.
The
government's move to seek additional forces comes amid concerns over the
recurrence of attacks on public and government property in and around Shillong-
the capital town of Meghalaya. The authorities are expected to step up security
measures as investigations continue into the incidents.
