Hearing Deferred to November 2 for Submission of Inquiry Report in Complaint Against Nagina MP

New Delhi, October 23(HS): The Rouse Avenue Court in Delhi on Friday granted the Delhi Police five working days to complete its inquiry into a rape complaint against Chandrashekhar Azad Ravan, president of the Azad Samaj Party (Kanshi Ram) and Member of Parliament from Nagina. The complainant opposed the police request for additional time, following which Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Neha Mittal scheduled the next hearing for November 2.

The court had previously directed the investigating officer to submit the inquiry report by October 23 without fail. It had also issued a notice to the concerned Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), directing the senior officer to ensure compliance with its order.

The matter concerns allegations by a Dalit woman activist, who has accused Azad of sexually exploiting her on the promise of marriage. Her counsel approached the court seeking directions for the registration of a First Information Report (FIR) against the MP.

On August 18, the court had directed the Delhi Police to file an action-taken report on the complaint. During proceedings on September 2, the investigating officer informed the court that the complaint had not been received, and therefore, the inquiry had not commenced.

Subsequently, on September 18, the court directed the police to submit the inquiry report by October 5. However, when the police again sought additional time, the court expressed displeasure over the delay and set October 23 as the deadline for submitting the report.

The matter will now be taken up on November 2, when the court is expected to consider the progress of the inquiry and the report submitted by the police.
