Guwahati, 23 October (HS): The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will launch a series of statewide programmes under the banner of ‘Save Democracy, Remove Anarchy’, beginning October 26, as part of its political campaign in Assam.

According to the party's schedule, the first phase will run from October 26 to November 5, during which rallies and processions will be organised across the state. The second phase of the campaign will be held from November 10 to November 30, featuring various protest programmes.

Meanwhile, the BJP received a major influx of Congress leaders from the Karbi Anglong region, with more than 300 Congress leaders and workers joining the ruling party at a programme held at the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Bhawan in Guwahati.

Augustine Enghi, president of the West Karbi Anglong District Congress Committee, was among those who switched allegiance to the BJP. The leaders had reportedly resigned from the Congress.

The joining programme was attended by Assam BJP president Dilip Saikia, minister Pijush Hazarika and Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council Chief Executive Member Tuliram Ronghang.

Addressing the gathering, Saikia asserted that there was no political future for parties other than the BJP in Karbi Anglong. Taking a swipe at the Congress, he remarked that even bathing the party in milk would not change its colour, suggesting that its fundamental character would remain unchanged.----------
