New Delhi, 22 October (H.S.): The University of Delhi (DU) will hold its 103rd convocation ceremony on November 20, with Union Home Minister Amit Shah attending as the chief guest. Vice-Chancellor Prof. Yogesh Singh will preside over the ceremony.
On Thursday, Prof. Singh chaired a meeting with the officials concerned to review preparations and assess the arrangements for the convocation. He also issued the necessary instructions to ensure the smooth conduct of the event.
The meeting was attended by DU Registrar Dr. Vikas Gupta; Controller of Examinations Prof. Gurpreet Singh Tuteja; Anup Lather, Chairperson of the Cultural Council and Public Relations Officer; Dean of Academic Affairs Prof. K. Ratnabali; and coordinators of various committees, along with other university officials.
Prof. Singh said that, for the first time in the university’s history, students would receive their degrees in the same year in which they complete their respective programmes. He explained that many students require their degrees to pursue higher education abroad or secure employment. The decision has therefore been taken to ensure that degrees are awarded in a timely manner, keeping students’ convenience and requirements in mind.
According to Prof. Singh, degrees will be conferred on 85,231 undergraduate students and 7,235 postgraduate students at this year’s convocation. In addition, more than 400 doctoral research scholars will also receive their degrees.
During the ceremony, 163 students will be awarded gold medals, one student will receive a silver medal, and 34 students will be honoured with various other awards.
