Chennai , 21 Oct (H.S.): Police Commemoration Day is an occasion to remember personnel who died protecting the nation and recognise the dedication of those serving the public, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay said on Wednesday.

Paying homage to fallen officers, Vijay said their sacrifices reflected the courage and commitment required to preserve peace, maintain law and order and safeguard citizens across the country.

In a social media message, the Chief Minister recalled the sacrifice of 10 Central Reserve Police Force personnel who lost their lives defending the country at the Ladakh border in 1959.

Remembering their service, he extended his tribute to all police personnel who had died while carrying out their responsibilities, saying their contribution deserved enduring respect and gratitude.

“On Police Commemoration Day, which honours their historic sacrifice, we salute all police personnel who laid down their lives while performing the noble duty of maintaining peace and law and order across the country,” he said.

Vijay also praised serving personnel for responding to emergencies with courage and vigilance, often under difficult circumstances and without predictable working hours.

Natural disasters, accidents, criminal activity and threats to public safety placed varied demands on the force, he said, commending officers for their readiness to respond whenever needed.

Describing the police as the nation’s protective fortress, the Chief Minister said their work frequently required them to serve without watching the clock or getting adequate rest.

Their sustained efforts helped protect communities and uphold public order, he said, calling for appreciation of the responsibilities they shouldered.

His message highlighted both the risks associated with policing and the dedication needed to meet everyday demands, from preventing crime to assisting people during emergencies.

Vijay urged people to honour those who had died on duty and acknowledge serving personnel whose tireless work continued to safeguard lives and preserve peace.
