Bhubaneswar, 21 October (H.S.): Political sparring has intensified in Odisha over BJD president Naveen Patnaik’s support for the CJP, with BJP state president Manmohan Samal launching a sharp attack on the former Chief Minister, alleging that the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) has become directionless and its leaders are suffering from ideological confusion.
Samal said the people of Odisha would not accept support for forces that promote anarchy or act against national interests.
The BJP state president said BJD leaders were making contradictory statements and should clearly explain whom they stand with. He pointed out that the party had earlier advocated maintaining equal distance from political formations but had now adopted inconsistent positions, at times associating with an alliance and at other times opposing its calls.
He said the BJD leadership appeared uncertain about its political course and questioned the purpose behind Naveen Patnaik’s support for the CJP. Samal said Patnaik should clarify his position and explain the rationale behind his decision.
Alleging that some self-proclaimed leaders placed personal interests above national interests, Samal said their thinking reflected ideological confusion and stressed that the country's interests must remain paramount.
Referring to the wars of 1965 and 1971, as well as air strikes and surgical strikes, Samal said the people of India had stood united whenever national security was at stake. He asserted that statements perceived as supporting China or Pakistan, or opposing the country’s interests, would not be acceptable.
Samal further said that supporting forces involved in anti-national activities was inappropriate. He added that the public was closely watching the conduct and political positions of leaders and would respond at the appropriate time.
